New York Times Fuelling Anti-Japanese Sentiment with Communist Chinese Cartoon
Japan’s Consulate General in New York lodged a protest with New York Times Co. on Thursday for publishing a cartoon (in The International Herald Tribune) in which Snow White, carrying a newspaper with the headline “Japan nuclear radiation,” asks an old woman offering an apple if she comes from Japan.
The cartoon was credited to Luojie of the English-language China Daily (Mouthpiece for the Chinese communist government).
Deputy Consul General Yasuhisa Kawamura said consumers do not have to worry about the safety of foods from Japan because they have cleared adequate radiation checks both in Japan and the United States.

Economic War Under the Disguise of Safety
Japan on Wednesday asked trading partners at the World Trade Organization not impose what it described as unjustifiable import restrictions on its exports. The country outlined that it had restricted distribution of agricultural products that may have been contaminated, and that it was monitoring levels of radioactive contaminants in order to prevent potential food safety risks. Several countries, including China, Taiwan, Singapore and the United States, have banned some food imports from Japan on fears of radioactive contamination.
