Tron (1982)
In the ENCOM mainframe, programs appear in the likeness of the Users who programmed them. However, the MCP and its commander, Sark have long intimidated most programs into renouncing a belief in Users. Programs that refuse to do so are forced to play in gladiatorial games in which losers are destroyed.

Tron: Legacy (2010)
After much work, Flynn discovered a new series of sentient “isomorphic algorithms” (ISOs), self-produced Programs that carried the potential to unlock mysteries in science, religion, and medicine. Clu considered these Programs to be an imperfection and, in keeping with his directive to “create the perfect system”, betrayed Flynn and had the ISOs wiped out.
