Genji Togashi reading Ashita no Joe Manga ~ S!!O E13
Ashita no Joe Live Action Movie
The film is largely faithful to the original manga, but it cannot be denied that the scenes leading up to the rivals’ showdown feel hurried. The repeated appearances of Yoko Shiraki (played by Karina), the owner of the gym to which Rikiishi belongs, serve to break up the constant tension portrayed between the two rivals, but at times, her upbringing and female perspective can feel like a wet blanket. The skid-row landscape where the story is set has a realistic feel to it, but the people are cookie-cutter patterns and lacking in appeal.
