Naked Colony is Hot
The scientist Paul Davies also supports the view that if a planetary catastrophe threatens the survival of the human species on Earth, a self-sufficient colony could “reverse-colonize” the Earth and restore human civilization.
The author and journalist William E. Burrows and the biochemist Robert Shapiro proposed a private project, the Alliance to Rescue Civilization, with the goal of establishing an off-Earth backup of human civilization.

I must agree that our best option is to create a self-sustaining colony. Terraforming either Venus or Mars would likely take massive resources, something which we may not be able to get. We could build sperm/egg banks in space and set it so that like in the space odyssey manga, robots would just recreate humans. Same thing as the plot from Megaman Legends 2.
dome: heheh, maybe its the best but who will make it works ? Just like antigravity engines (but i think they exist, even for more than 50 years).
