States took a massive effort in broadcasting and producing music generally for three reasons:
* To boost the morale of troops and civilians suffering under the war.
* To attract enemy troops to propaganda programs.
* To express a vision of the nature of their regimes.
Lili Marleen
‘Lili Marleen‘ became the favourite tune of soldiers on both sides during World War II. Lili Marlen originally was a poem, written by German teacher Hans Leip in 1915. The song was originally titled – Das Mädchen unter der Laterne. It was set to music twice: The first time in 1935 by Rudolf Zink without major success, the second time by Norbert Schultze in 1938, of which the latter became the legendary version. It was recorded for the very first time on 2nd of August 1939 at the Electrola studios of Berlin by Lale Andersen and the Bruno Seidler-Winkler Orchestra.
